The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries & Museums are recruiting for a Metadata Librarian. This position manages the unit responsible for cataloging and metadata management, including rare and special materials and electronic resources. The salary range is $50,000- $65,000 annualized with flexibility, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications. Applications will be accepted through 11:59 PM CST on 12/01/2024.
The Metadata Librarian is responsible for setting policies and advancing priorities for resource description. This position leads a unit responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of library materials in all formats, as well as the associated authority work, quality control, maintenance, and remediation necessary to ensure efficient and effective access to library collections. The Metadata Librarian ensures compliance with cataloging and classification standards, develops appropriate procedures and quality-assurance workflows in accordance with those standards, and adapts processes to emerging technologies and best practices in the field.
Required Qualifications:
- Accredited MLS/MLIS.
- Two years of full-time experience performing original and complex copy cataloging in a library.
- Experience using a library services platform such as Alma/Primo.
- Experience with tools for editing bibliographic data such as OCLC Connexion, MarcEdit, and OpenRefine.
- Experience training and supervising regular, non-student staff.
- Experience creating clear, concise procedural documentation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of national and international standards for library resource description, subject analysis, and classification; strong familiarity with commonly used metadata schemas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of authority records and authority control procedures.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively with various stakeholders.
- Ability to quickly digest and apply new knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience training, supervising, and evaluating regular, non-student staff in a library setting.
- Experience or coursework in describing rare books and manuscripts.
- Cataloging experience with non-English materials.
- Experience using vendor-supplied records.
- Experience with metadata mapping and conversion.
- Familiarity with emerging content standards, vocabularies, and descriptive metadata formats.
- Knowledge of conceptual models for bibliographic and authority information.
- Knowledge of issues related to systems interoperability.
- Ability to develop, propose, and implement project plans.
This hybrid position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
