Why We Chose To Remove “Expand My Results” (And Believe You Should Consider It Too). Elyssa Gould, Head of Acquisitions & Continuing Resources, University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries; Mike Rogers, Director of Discovery & Technology Solutions, University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries.

Since August 2022, the University of Tennessee has been on a journey to make discovery more inclusive and less biased. As part of this journey, we made a decision to remove “Expand My Results” and default to showing everything available to users, regardless of whether we owned the content in full-text. What we learned from this process was stunning in terms of a better understanding of what users really want from a library search, how indexing differences affect the brief and full results screens, and the impact that poor metadata can have on search results in Primo. Ultimately, we believe the discovery experience now leverages the best of what Primo and CDI offer to provide a much more inclusive and comprehensive search experience. Resource Sharing numbers are through the roof, and (to us) prove that this method is working. Come hear more as we share our experience!

Comparing Resource Recommender to Discovery Import Profiles for Suggested Databases and Guides. Angela Flenner, Acquisitions & Resource Management Coordinator, College of Charleston Libraries.

My institution has used Discovery Import Profiles for displaying Springshare LibGuides and A-Z Database listings in Primo since we migrated to Alma/Primo four years ago. Recent enhancements to the Resource Recommender search querying have prompted us to investigate that feature for database and subject guide linking instead. While the Discovery Import Profiles have the benefit of running automatically overnight, the Resource Recommender offers more customization and will always display at the top of search results if it matches a keyword. These two features will be compared and contrasted in terms of staff time and workflows as well as usability in the Primo search results.

Creating Primo VE Normalization Rules for External Data Sources. Lori Stethers, Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian, Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT).

To ingest external data sources such as LibGuides, ArchivesSpace, and institutional repositories into Primo VE for discovery by your users, you will need to map and transform data as a part of that ingest process. To map and transform data, you need to use discovery normalization rules.
In this session, learn to create and test discovery normalization rules for external data sources. Learn both Dublin Core and XML rule syntax, and why you might choose one over the other for your rules. See real-life examples of rules I have used for processing Islandora, LibGuides, and ArchivesSpace data sources. This presentation assumes you are already familiar with creating Primo VE Discovery Import Profiles.
