The 2026 ELUNA conference is in the rearview mirror, and summer is just around the corner, a time when library activities slow down on many campuses. Nevertheless, summer will bring additional changes to Rialto, including the full cessation of Ebook Central perpetual purchases on June 30. License upgrades will remain available. Rialto administrators may want to modify recommendation, selection, and ranking profiles to account for the removal of content. Despite the removal of Ebook Central and Ebsco content from the Rialto platform, Rialto continues to work with new providers to ensure a variety of options for customers. Among these are Browns/VLebooks, Kortex, and Ingrams for print orders.
For those who missed ELUNA and have previously investigated Rialto’s new Collection Development features, you may wish to take another look. Expanded capabilities for identifying retention and deselection candidates have been added, including the ability to make use of advanced search features for titles, holdings, and item records. Electronic matching of print holdings also becomes available with the June release.
The Rialto Working Group itself continues to shepherd along the 2026 CERV process. We are currently awaiting the assignment of points for submitted enhancement requests. The pointing process should be finished in early July, at which point the committee will share the assigned points with the community in anticipation of the 2nd round of voting.
Finally, the currently joint ELUNA/IGeLU Rialto Working Group is likely to split into two groups over the summer. In anticipation of this, both groups are recruiting new members. A draft of the group’s newly revised Terms of Reference, shared to the Rialto-L listserv, provides information about Working Group terms, roles, and responsibilities. Anyone interested is encouraged to reach out to ELUNA Rialto WG chair Rami Attebury or IGeLU Rialto WG chair Sami Seah for more information.
