Following our May session at ELUNA on Generative Artificial Intelligence at Clarivate, we’re excited to continue the conversation with an update on the latest developments in our AI journey, including the roll out of several AI products and beta programs designed to enhance research and learning and drive library productivity. In this session, we’ll share key feedback and insights gathered from our beta programs. Additionally, we’ll delve into the findings from our latest Pulse of the Library survey, with a special focus on how libraries are perceiving and adopting AI technologies. Join us to discover what’s next on our Academic AI roadmap, informed by user experiences and community feedback.

This presentation will show how NLM is using ChatGPT to gain efficiencies with Alma. This session will cover the use of ChatGPT for: • Creating normalization rules • Formatting the Table of Contents field • Creating a validation python script to check for common cataloging errors • Creating a python script to add data to Alma records via the API Although I mention python, no programming experience is needed! We’ll have ChatGPT do all the coding.

How are academic libraries and research environments confronting artificial intelligence (AI)? Since ChatGPT was released to the public in late 2022, librarians, instructors, and higher education administrators have grappled with generative artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for teaching, learning, research, and writing. Using “Diffusion of Innovation” as a theoretical framework, the audience will engage in discussion about how libraries and educators are using AI tools. We will discuss the variety of information management problems for which generative AI offers a solution. Finally, we will consider a spectrum of acceptable uses for generative AI. This session offers participants the opportunity to think about AI from practical and philosophical standpoints. Participants will not only gain knowledge about practical applications for AI, but more critically, they will be able to consider why they might embrace or resist it.
