Join the Alma Specto product team for a practical look at how institutions are using Alma Specto to transform access to and engagement with digital and special collections. We’ll begin with a brief introduction to Alma Specto, followed by an overview of recently released enhancements and a preview of upcoming developments. 

The session will also showcase real exhibitions published by Alma Specto institutions, highlighting approaches to increasing collection visibility, improving discovery, and creating engaging experiences for researchers and the public. 

In addition to exploring the latest product developments, attendees will gain insight into how Alma Specto’s AI-powered enrichment and exhibition tools are helping institutions surface unique collections and make them more accessible to broader audiences. Through real-world examples and product demonstrations, participants will leave with a clearer understanding of Alma Specto’s direction and practical ideas they can apply within their own organizations. 

Rosetta as a Backbone for Access to Digital Archival Collections. Teresa Soleau, Product Manager for Digital Preservation, J. Paul Getty Trust; Dave Allen, Lead, Digital Preservation, State Library of Queensland. 

In this session, staff from State Library Queensland and The Getty will describe their use of Rosetta as the preservation repository that sits behind the systems and standards they use to provide access to their digital archival content including both home-grown systems and vendor products (specifically OpenText Media Management, Alma and Specto Essentials). 

Each institution will describe the different integrations with Rosetta and how they are leveraging IIIF images and manifests to express relationships between archival objects, with the goal of improving user experience for these collections that rely heavily on context and may not be described at the item level. 

Using Alma Specto for Streaming Licensed Media. Stanley Cottrell, Technical Services Librarian, Southern Adventist University. 

The McKee Library at Southern Adventist University has been using portfolios in Alma to link to licensed streaming media titles hosted on its Panopto server. However, since implementing Alma-D (now Specto), the library has found that this provides a better solution. 

Alma Specto lets the library maintain greater control over content and presentation while allowing more selective control over access rights. This session will demonstrate how to add media to Specto and configure and apply access rights on individual titles.
