Can You Lend It? Leveraging Technology to Accurately and Automatically Determine ILL Lending Rights. Sunshine Carter, Director, Collection Strategy & eResource Management, University of Minnesota Libraries; Kyle Triska, End User Support, Minitex Consortium.

Minitex (a regional multi-type consortium) is the interlibrary loan lending partner for the University of Minnesota Libraries. The presenters will discuss a Minitex project to integrate license term information into Mira, a locally developed request management system. The two organizations worked to clean up license agreements in Alma, determine relevant license terms, set up and test the Alma API to call for license information, and implemented a system to provide automated, real-time license information for shareable resources. These efforts to leverage our tools and technologies resulted in a more efficient and accurate lending workflow.

Strategies for Utilizing LibKey to Improve Resource Sharing. John Seguin, President, Chief Librarian and Co-founder, Third Iron (Gold Sponsor).

LibKey has long been used to improve access and expedite full text workflows for library users through its integration into various library systems and via its end-user installable browser extension, LibKey Nomad. Recent developments however are demonstrating how LibKey can also be used to improve resource sharing workflows for both library staff and users. This presentation will highlight new integrations with Article Galaxy Scholar and ILLiad as well as share best practices on how resource sharing librarians can make the most of LibKey at their libraries.

Bridging Code & Culture: An Affordable Course Materials Project. Andrea Schuler, Head of Open Scholarship & Research Data, Tisch Library, Tufts University; Martha Kelehan, Assistant Director, Research & Learning,Tisch Library, Tufts University; Evan Smith, Assistant Manager for Resource Sharing, Tisch Library, Tufts University; Henry Steel, Senior Systems Librarian, Tufts University Libraries.

In this presentation colleagues at Tufts University will describe a project to reduce the financial burden of required course materials on students. The project was designed to improve access to e-book versions of required texts available through the library, while also making workflow improvements for instructor and staff processes. It brings together staff from across departments, bridging departmental cultures and areas of expertise to create a holistic workflow as textbook data travels from the university bookstore, into Alma, through some custom code, to another external vendor, back into Alma, to a local website. The presentation will describe the project workflows, including identifying required texts the library already owns, purchasing those they don’t, and creating a one-stop resource where students can see required texts available as e-books; provide access to custom code created for the project; and discuss future opportunities for course reserves workflows and Leganto Reading Lists.
