From Order to Shelf: Using GobiAPI and Physical Processing to Streamline Book Acquisitions. Carol Seiler, MLS, Account Services Manager, EBSCO/GOBI (Gold Sponsor).
During this session attendees will discover more about the efficiencies and ease of use of the GobiAPI when ordering via GOBI. The GobiAPI was built on existing Alma functionality in cooperation with Ex Libris. We will also review physical processing options available through GOBI and how these services help streamline acquisition for libraries.

Now more than ever, data drives decision making, especially in collection development. However, the librarians making these decisions frequently rely on the knowledge and expertise of the librarians managing the resource workflow in Alma to identify and interpret the available data and to package it into reports showing return on investment, e.g., cost-per-use or cost increase over time. To breakdown this information barrier, Vanderbilt University Libraries built a self-service, centralized dashboard to provide updated purchase and usage data, which streamlines requests from liaisons allowing easier information sharing and transparency. This session will cover the rationale behind building the dashboard, review reports and their structure, inform how library staff are using it to support renewal, cancelation, and new purchase decisions, and explain how we are incorporating feedback to continuously improve the dashboard.

Migration has concluded, Alma is live, and now the challenge emerges: implementing a new acquisition system. Where do you turn when your long-established system specific procedures become obsolete? While specific task outcomes may remain consistent, the approaches to achieving these results have fundamentally changed. The opportunity exists to dramatically shift responsibilities due to Alma’s different functionality compared to past practices. You want to use Alma to its fullest potential, but how? Sometimes, knowing where to start is half the battle. Our discussion aims to highlight the collaboration within the Alma community in addressing acquisition specific challenges, ranging from updating default settings, establishing real time ordering through GOBI, managing import profiles, effectively leveraging FTP for embedded order metadata ingest, and more. Join us as we reflect on our inaugural year of Acquisitions, sharing experiences to inform future implementers and reminiscence with current users about their early journey.
