The Judge Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library at The Catholic University of America School of Law is seeking applicants for the position of Access Services Librarian. The successful candidate will actively support the public-facing library systems, including the Law Library’s discovery system, and the interlibrary loan and resource sharing operations. The Judge Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library is located on the campus of The Catholic University of America, the largest university campus in the District of Columbia, and a short Metro ride to downtown D.C. and Capitol Hill. The campus is ideally situated in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C., one of the most vibrant and exciting communities in the city.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Staffs the Circulation Desk during designated evening hours; this position holds an alternate schedule of 12-8PM Monday-Thursday, 10-6PM Friday.
  2. Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates 20-25 part-time student employees in the Access Services Department. Coordinates completion with the CUA Human Resources Office to  ensure compliance with university hiring and payroll policies and procedures.
  3. Manages the Law Library’s interlibrary loan and resource sharing operations, including both borrowing and lending, following standards set by the Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States. Coordinates delivery of materials to requesters and oversees the proper return of all borrowed materials to the owning institution in a timely manner.
  4. Serves as faculty liaison for Course Reserves. Supports the Access Services Manager in updating courses and reading lists in the Library’s integrated library system, Ex Libris’ Alma each semester.
  5. Provides instructional presentations, training, and outreach to editors and staff at journal orientation, facilitates borrowing, coordinates research inquiries and maintains student access to specialized services.
  6. Serves as a resource for library staff regarding user accessibility. Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Access Services and the Research Services Department to evaluate student needs and concerns to ensure the Library’s physical spaces are accessible to all users, and that the Library’s web-based services comply with current web accessibility standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience as a professional librarian, preferably in an academic library.
  • Familiarity working with an integrated library system or library services platform and an interlibrary loan service platform (e.g. OCLC’s WorldShare ILL).
  • Familiarity in providing library outreach through working with a diverse clientele, including faculty, law students, and unskilled library users.
  • Outstanding communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to effectively teach and present.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in circulation or interlibrary loan.
  • Experience supervising students and/or paraprofessionals.
  • Experience with Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo VE.
