We’ve all been there! Adding an Alma Fulfillment Terms of Use and Fulfillment Unit Rule for this, one for that, and one for that other thing, too, especially after we vowed to streamline our policies and never branch and fork the way we did in our old system, a few years ago, or even last week. 

So, now we also get to revisit cleaning them up and consolidating. Again. If this sounds like a situation you have, come hear how Fulfillment Units, TOUs and their components work, and learn some strategies to help kick off your housecleaning. 

Using Alma APIs to Create an Online Application Form and Circulation Utility for Laptop Lending.  Jack Hallin, Systems Librarian, Northern Arizona University. 

To support an academic-year student laptop lending program, our midsize public university used Alma APIs and custom web applications to improve access, efficiency, and program oversight. The library’s long-term lending program serves students who are first-generation, international, or from disadvantaged backgrounds. As demand increased, usage became concentrated within a single user group. We developed an online application and multi-department approval process to better manage limited resources. 

Using HTML, JavaScript, and PHP, we created a student application portal and staff-facing tools that manage laptop circulation and display real-time availability without requiring access to Alma. These applications integrate Alma APIs, an internal university directory, and an Oracle database to automate user verification, approvals, and inventory tracking. 

We also expanded Alma functionality by creating locations for satellite operations and repurposing an item-record field to track availability. This project demonstrates how libraries can extend Alma to deliver more equitable and efficient technology lending services. 

Desperately Despising Desks, Departments & More.  Sara Gliniecki, Systems Librarian, Hamline University; Mary O’Dea, Head of Resource and Acquisition Management, Hamline University Library. 

In the 2025-2026 academic year, Hamline University embarked on a journey to clean up the number of desks and departments they had configured over the years for multiple digitization and resource sharing workflows. 

Two librarians from Hamline will present their initial reasons for embarking on this journey. They will note additional reasons they discovered along the way. Their PALS consultant librarian will also help explain a little about how Alma was working with the desks to cause these hiccups, and the reason Alma had the workflows set up this way.
