Job Summary

The Assistant Librarian for Information Literacy Instruction is responsible for designing, teaching, and promoting the library’s information literacy program. A fixed-term, non-tenure-track faculty position, the Assistant Librarian for Information Literacy Instruction participates in reference service, collection development, departmental outreach, and the application of information technology to these services.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

·         Designs, teaches, and promotes the library’s instructional program based on goals and strategies derived from professional library standards and frameworks for information literacy.

·         Coordinates and schedules all library instruction activities and serves as the primary contact person and faculty liaison for all general inquiries for library instruction.

·         Collaborates with others and works individually to produce and maintain a variety of informational and instructional materials, such as online tutorials and reference guides.

·         Develops new strategies for implementing technology in library and information literacy instruction.

·         Works collegially with classroom faculty to integrate information competencies into the university curriculum by incorporating the use of library resources into learning experiences.

·         Assesses the library instruction program in collaboration with the Library Director and the library assessment committee and participates in other library assessment activities as assigned.

·         Provides face-to-face and online library reference service by answering reference questions, advising users on appropriate library resources and strategies for their research, guiding them in the access and retrieval of physical and digital library materials, assisting users with information technology, and communicating library policies and regulations.

·         Serves as a key member of the library’s team for support of distance learning.

·         Participates as a member of the library collection development team and as a liaison to specific academic colleges or departments.

·         May supervise student employees at the library information desk.
