ELUNA 2022 Online Meeting

ELUNA 2022 Annual Meeting

The ELUNA 2022 Annual Meeting will be held as a virtual event during the month of May, 2022.

Thank you to the 392 people who participated in the ELUNA 2022 event survey that ran from October 7 – 31, 2021.   In this survey, we discovered that 51.5% of respondents were not planning to attend the ELUNA 2022 Annual Meeting in Atlanta in person.  Of the 48.5% who did plan to attend, only 32.5% had secured funding.  This data, along with continued concerns related to travel and event safety, has informed the ELUNA Steering Committee decision to move the ELUNA 2022 Annual Meeting to an online venue.

There is no fee for the ELUNA 2022 Annual Meeting Online events.  The events and quality of programming could not have been possible without the support of key sponsors.

      Session Q&A

      Welcome | Laura Morse, Harvard University | 1:00 pm – 1:05 pm

ELUNA 2022 Online Kickoff | Allen Jones, The New School | 1:05 pm – 1:25 pm

The theme for this year is integration and innovation. The crisis of COVID has accelerated new thinking around traditional services – delivery logistics, inter-library lending, e-book lending experiments and controlled digital lending are examples. What makes these integrations/innovations possible are data standards and communication protocols between content providers, discovery services and library systems, inside and outside of Ex Libris. We can lend and borrow more from one another, coordinate shared activities, and provide a truly seamless end-user experience through shared participation in standards – for content, metadata and software. Perhaps there is a third option between open and closed, which is “open enough”.

One of the things it brought to Ex Libris (and ProQuest, and Clarivate…) are global employee networks: employees not just getting to know each other, but working together to help and support each other, improve our lives and workplace. Our Women Network works to make our company better for all women, whether by pushing for work conditions improvements, introducing women in leadership roles, setting up networking opportunities such as movie and book clubs, volunteering with women organizations outside our company or holding conversations on issues that matter to our lives, our work and our community. You are welcome to hear a little about what we’ve been doing to make a difference, and possibly suggest new ideas – we are always happy to learn from our community of knowledge!

ELUNA Keynote: Rising expectations, increasing demands, and more robust systems: The library infrastructure requirements of the future.  Todd Carpenter, Executive Director, NISO | 2:55 pm – 3:55 pm

What libraries do and how libraries function has grown clad charged over the past several decades since the first ILS system was released in the early 1970s. As demands have grown, so too have systems functionality, including e-resource management functionality. Expectations of libraries and library services are continuing to expand, with libraries taking an ever increasing role in institutional research management, data management and research assessment. The nature of journals subscriptions is rapidly changing with open access becoming a significant component of the literature, with libraries taking a lead in transformative agreements to hasten the transition. How libraries have created and curated collections has changed with new acquisitions models such as demand-driven acquisitions. Meanwhile libraries are seeking to collaborate more with shared print collections, resource sharing, and newly developing cooperative collections development activities. Drawing these trends together, this talk will consider what librarians should expect from the next generation of library systems and whether they have the capacities to support the library of the future.
