POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for the USF Health Libraries, the Director for Content Management and Discovery provides leadership, vision, and overall management of the Content Management Unit of the USF Health Libraries and works closely within the unit and with members of the USF Health Libraries leadership team to provide a robust catalog of resources to the USF Health Libraries patrons. Will provide leadership to the USF Health Libraries in the absence of the Assistant Vice President for the USF Health Libraries. Will develop and maintain relationships with USF Health leadership in support of the mission of the USF Health Libraries. This has been designed as a hybrid (on-site and remote) position.

The library also provides these services to affiliated hospitals, area health professionals and providers, and members of the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

Negotiates licenses and packages for library resources.

Manages and oversees the Content Management Unit, including staffing and resources.

Works with the Assistant Vice President for the USF Health Libraries and the Manager, Library Operations to allocate and manage the library resources budget.

Supervises the work of the Manager, Library Operations, who liaises with vendors and consortia to identify products and troubleshoot technical and fiscal resource issues.

Assesses the strength of library collections and services in preparation for external reviews of academic programs and proposals of new programs.

Leads and coordinates the development and implementation of strategies and policies regarding collections with a collaborative team of librarians.

Oversees analysis and reporting regarding collection growth, usage, material costs, expenditures, etc. to inform decisions, project budgetary needs, and develop collection strategies.

Serves on the library Leadership Team. Participates in strategic planning for the USFHL and leads strategic planning efforts for the CMU.

Communicates with USF Health stakeholders regarding services and resources.

RESEARCH DUTIES:

Identifies and analyzes best practices and emerging trends regarding collections.

Works with the USFHL librarians to review existing resources and identify new resources for the colleges and programs.

Utilizes metrics and other evaluation criteria to support data-driven functional area decisions and to implement practices and tools to increase the efficiency of processes and workflows.

Undertakes quantitative and qualitative assessment to improve collections in support of the priorities of the University.

OPTIONAL TEACHING DUTIES:

Works with the Morsani College of Medicine Undergraduate Medical Education to serve on the curriculum committee and the sub-committee for course review and other associated duties to support UME.

Collaborates with faculty to provide curriculum-integrated instructional support, including teaching classes.

Additional compensation may be available for these activities, dependent on candidate qualifications and interest.

OTHER DUTIES:

Represents USF Health and the USF Health Libraries on various internal and external committees.

Participates in professional development activities, including scholarly activities, professional organizations, and events within the field of health sciences librarianship.

Additional or special duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution.

Minimum five years of experience in an academic library, which includes some experience in collection development, cataloging, and acquisitions, including managing budgets and negotiating with vendors.

Minimum of three years of supervisory and administrative experience. Excellent communication skills.

Ability to fulfill the scholarly and service expectations of a non-tenure-track position, including participation in University committees and in the community.

Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Librarian or higher.

PREFERRED:

An additional masters (or doctoral) degree in a health sciences, education, or health-related STEM field.

Demonstrated leadership ability and experience setting priorities and establishing long-term plans for collections and resources.

Knowledge of, and experience with, AACR2, FRBR, MARC records, etc. Demonstrated experience managing complex and overlapping projects.

Knowledge of major copyright issues confronting academic libraries and their potential solutions. Experience working in library management systems.

Knowledgeable about innovations and changes in the profession. Strong analytical skills.

Ability to complete projects within deadlines.

Experience working with data analysis and statistical programs, using a variety of tools and data types, especially the advanced data analysis features of Excel.

Knowledge and use of popular data standards and tools, e.g. COUNTER and SUSHI.

Experience as a subject liaison or demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty on projects and/or scholarly communications.

Experience in supporting an undergraduate medical education program.
